About Basic Rules

Let’s face it as Iron Golfers, we are not exactly playing in the US Open when we tee it up with our buddies. So, let’s take a look at the rules a little bit here and see how they were meant to be applied to us.

The Desert Rule

By the rule book or "serious golf", if we hit our tee shot "out of bounds" defined by white stakes or someone’s living room, we are to go back to the original spot we hit from and we will be hitting three from the tee.
Now if we hit that tee shot into a river or lateral hazard defined by red stakes we could just drop the ball where it crossed the river and play from there and we would be hitting our 3rd shot. It hardly seems fair if you hit it out of bounds. To make things fun fair and faster some smart golfers came up with the desert rule. It can be called the forest rule or whatever, but basically you play any lost ball, unplayable ball or ball hit out of bounds like a lateral hazard. You drop it where it crossed in, add a stroke and play from there. This still penalizes you but saves a lot of time and grief while still upholding the integrity of the game.
